Senior Staff Accountant (Project Accountant) - The Woodlands

Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our accounting team to support financial operations and maintain accurate accounting records for our organization. This role will report directly to the Controller and play a key role in owning core accounting processes, supporting month-end close, and assisting with construction accounting activities.

Details:

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple financial responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Accounting
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations (cash, credit cards, prepaid, accruals, etc.)
  • Assist with and help streamline the month-end close process
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy across multiple entities
Construction Accounting
  • Manage and review job cost allocations
  • Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
  • Support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
  • Review and assist with AIA billing / progress billing
  • Analyze project profitability and job performance
Support & Oversight
  • Serve as a resource to the current junior staff (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll)
  • Review transactions for accuracy and proper coding
  • Help establish and document accounting processes and controls
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
Systems & Reporting
  • Utilize Sage Intacct for daily accounting operations
  • Assist with financial reporting and variance analysis
  • Support external CPA requests as needed

Qualifications & Requirements:

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3 to 6 years of accounting experience
  • Experience with construction or project accounting
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Job costing
    • Accrual accounting
    • Month-end close
  • Critical thinking, attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, construction-adjacent environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or comparable construction accounting software
  • Experience with multi-entity environments
  • Familiarity with WIP schedules and revenue recognition
